Medical Exam

Posted on Sun Jun 1st, 2025 @ 12:55am by Lieutenant JG Vincent Shaw & Lieutenant Dr. J.R. McEntyre, M.D.

754 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Broken Mirror
Location: sickbay
Timeline: TBD

Vincent decided he should make his way to Medical to meet the doctor there and to get the medical examination that was needed. Since had been brought back into the fold of Star Fleet, this was long over due. He stepped inside of sickbay gazing around and also listening to the instruments that were operating. There was going to be some much neede recalibration to be done. Catching the eye of a nurse passing by, "Excuse me where is Dr. McEntyre?"

"Here," The doctor in question pokes his head out of his office, his ears twitching as he walks over. "How can i help ya?" He asks with a cordial smile.

"I figured I would come see you for my preliminary medical examination. Before you decide to hunt me down for avoiding one." Vincent giving a half smile. "Care to take care of it?"

"I've haven't gotten a chance to go through the medical files, so if you're actually volunteering for your physical, then step into my parlor." J.R smiles, gesturing to a biobed in the main sickbay, while pulling a tricorder from his lab coat pocket.

"I've learned not to try to hide from medical personnel, they are rather-tenacious in making certain to get the medical examination done, and can be just a bit grumpy, I had one threaten me with using a tranq dart if I didn't come willingly." Vincent giving a laugh.

"I can assure you, I will not come after ya with a tranquilizer dart, I'm simply use my claws" J.R smiles briefly. "I'm kidding of course. Any ailments or new pains in the last few days?" J.R asked as he scans Vincent.

"Not at all, and I am feeling pretty good." Vincent replied. "And no tranquilizer dart? Awww or would it be more of a phaser stun."

“No, I don’t commonly employ phasers in my line of work. For that, you’ll have to talk to my cousins. They’re all marines and combat officers” J.R mused as he finished his scan.

“So far your scans are clean. Any comments or questions or anything concerning that you wish to bring up?” He asked his patient.

"Not many questions on my part. Just wanted to find out if I pass my exam. In the mean time, how long have you been on the Calypso?" Vincent giving a look of curiosity.

“Not that long. I transferred in a few weeks ago from Deep Space 12 where I was working on research and as their Chief Surgeon. I’m a Surgeon by trade so technically my title should be ‘Ship’s Surgeon’” J.R elaborated for the young officer.

"And yet you are head of medical on this ship. Which isn't a bad thing. Anyhow. My medical is clean, and I am in good health. So this means I can go now, making this a rather short visit. Best medical visit I've had in along time." Vincent getting up from the biobed. He headed towards the door to exit Medical. He knew he was leaving abruptly but, there were things he needed to do. Before he stepped out of Medical, Vincent turned to say to J.R. "Sometime we can talk about things other than medical, sound good?"

The Caitian nodded to the young man. "It sounds good to me. I hope we speak further in the future."

Then the door of medical closed behind Vincent as he headed down the corridor. The one thing that Vincent didn't like was staying in Medical for too long. He paused for a moment looking back towards Medical. Too bad he didn't have a sample of his daughter's dna to maybe see if the doctor could find out the origin of his ex wife as in his daughter being part of him and her mother maybe some other race. He will have to look through that packet that his uncle had found and had given to him. Maybe there is something one could only hope. For now, he had other things on his mind, getting to know the rest of the ship and her crew. He did feel badly about leaving so abruptly. Vincent felt uncomfortable, a reaction due to some previous encounters. He thought he'd gotten over it, Vincent had not. And yet another piece to Vincent, to get worked on, a slight irritation, on a personal level.
