1,082 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Broken Mirror
Location: Medical

As much as he detested going into Medical, but he sure needed help in discovering who his ex wife's true race. He held within his hand the packet that had been found and given to him by his uncle. He stopped at the door taking in a breath through his nose. Okay Vincent he isn't that doctor. Doctor Davidson. This doctor isn't going to be putting you through test for no darned reason. letting out his breath he stepped inside, and looked around for Dr. McEntyre.

He approached a nurse, "Excuse me, is the Doctor available?"

J.R looks up from a biobed, where he was working on an experiment. He blinked for a few moments when he saw Vincent, having not heard him come in with the small earbuds in his ears. He pulls them out as he spoke.

"Mr. Shaw. What can I do for ya?" he asked with a cat like curiousity.

"So I have the packet I had mentioned to you earlier. And maybe, just maybe ,there might be something I have missed when looking over the packet? I need the eyes and perception of a doctor like you. You may find something that might be hidden." Vincent responded. "And you may have the instruments that is needed."

"Well, let me take a look and we'll see what we can find" J.R smiled as he pushed his glasses up, taking the packet from Vincent.

"Thank you." Vincent smi!ing, as he moved further into medical. Even though he was nervous about being here, his curiosity and the need to solve this mystery as to where his ex wife was from over came the trepidation he felt.

J.R takes the small packet and inserts it into his terminal, the computer bringing up the DNA sequence, running it across the screen. The Caitian murmers and ponders as he furrow his brow, deep in thought.

"This DNA is interesting to say the least, where did you say you got it from?" He asked.

"The packet was dropped by someone looking for me and got in a scuffle with my uncle. The man according to my uncle and his men, there were others with him. And they were prepared to take me by force."

This made J.R tilt his head. "Start from the beginning and don't leave out any detail. Cause this DNA is pretty basic for an Alpha Centaurian."

"Which part, when I first met who I considered my lady love and then it was revealed she's not who she said she was?" Vincent was wondering just how far back the Doctor wished him to start his tale.

"Wherever the beginning is." J.R said bluntly to Vincent, leaning back in his chair, giving him his full attention.

"Okay, I met my ex wife, beautiful smart, we hit it off. We got married and everything was going rather well, including a welcome pregnancy. However when it came to after our baby was born, she revealed to me that she wasn't Ariana Kingston she was instead Ilyana. She never gave me her last name, only that she wanted a divorce. I gave it to her, and let her take our baby away. There was that investigation into who she really was and if she were actually human. And if I were truly human. Hence my previous behaviour. "

Vincent looked directly at J.R. "You sir are the only one who was able to give me some solid proof of where she came from."

"One of the markers in Alpha Centaurian DNA is traces of the Centaurian Plague which ravaged the early colonies at Alpha Centauri. The vaccine used early gene therapy to combat the disease which can be found in the genome of descendents of the early colonists." J.R elaborated.

"Additionally it's stronger in Royal and Nobility of the Centaurian Kingdoms."

"My ex was a Centaurian, imagine that. Now though, need to find out who she is related to and then find out where my daughter is at. I would like to see her." Vincent mused. "I will need to get more information and send out more feelers"

Vincent leaned back in his seat, folding his arms across his chest. "This is rather curious. Perhaps she wished to get away and live her own life. Or she was sent to find out more of the Federation being undercover, or even both. Maybe she ended up falling in love, with me and didn't want to give out any information and perhaps her people found her after doing some searching around. It does take time I suppose to find someone."

Many thoughts were going through Vincent's mind, possibilities and what ifs were flying around. Just the thought of the layers he was going to have to sort through.

The operations officer leaned forward, rubbing his face with his hands. "Oh my such a tangled web they have woven, for whatever reason my ex wife's people had for her coming to where I was serving. So the markers of the vaccination has revealed a major clue and a trail of pebbles to follow instead of bread crumbs. There was a feeling of hope rising in his heart, he may yet solve the mystery that had landed in his lap.

Vincent reached out to gather all the information he had brought in for J.R. to look at. "I'll take this back and go look at things a bit more later on." he commented.

He leafed through the papers once more, putting them in order, sliding them back into the satchel he carried them in. Rising up from where he was sitting, Vincent gave a nod to the Caitian Doctor. "Thank you for your help. Doctor McEntyre. He had teken up enough of the Doctor's time. He had braved medical to find out much needed information, nows that he had it, he can now send out more feelers and know what directionto go in.

Clearing his throat, and tugging at the collar of his uniform, feeling the rise of his anxiousness of being in medical.

"Well sir, I'm going to be going. Thanks once again." Vincent did his best not to dash out of there, and partially succeeded. Once out of sickbay, Vincent's steps became much quicker, eager to get as far away as possible from sickbay.
