Sam was informed that the new chief operations officer had arrived, but as she had yet to see him, she assumed he'd gone straight to operations. At least, she hoped so.
Either way, she had a few minutes and so decided to go down to operations and see if Lieutenant Shaw was around.
As she walked into main operations, she nodded to those she knew by name or face as she looked for the new arrival.
Vincent had gone directly to Main Operations to get himself centered after his meeting with the ship's counselor. The hums and the whirrings of the consoles were a comfort to him. At this moment he had one of the panels below a console open and taking a reading. At times he would have his head tilted as if he were listening to the resonance of the sounds inside . There was a dissonance there and he couldn't find it yet.
He was muttering softly "Just where are you, you miserable little screech?"
Sam had been watching him for a moment, but when he spoke, she couldn't help replying. "They seldom answer; and in my opinion, if they do, you have a bigger problem than a random noise."
The unexpected voice from behind, made Vincent jump banging his elbow against the edge of the console opening. "Yikes!" he yelped twisting around to see who had spoken, rubbing the stinging funny bone. his eyes traveled up from the shins to the face of - "Er hello -Captain!" Scrambling to get to his feet to stand at attention.
"At ease." She waved him to stand down. "Welcome aboard. I thought I'd stop by and see how you're settling in."
Vincent relaxed his posture then his eyes widened. “I need to apologize I've not come to your office to officially report in." giving a wry apologetic smile. " I am truly sorry for my oversight. I need to sandpaper off the rusty coat of having been mostly a civilian"
"You're fine. I was in science before being given command and I've been known to slack off on some of the more rigid protocols from time to time. I'm just glad to have a new chief. Our last one left over a week ago." She looked around a moment, then back to Shaw. "Do you have a few minutes?"
"Yes I do, let me close this up, and I'll continue the hunt for the elusive screech at a later point. " Vincent crouching down to close up the console. Rising back to his feet, Vincent remarked. "I am ready now, Commodore."
Sam nodded. "Where would you prefer to talk?"
"Wherever you wish to do so, Commodore." Vincent, He looked around. "Though if we do go into some, personal questions might be better that we're not out here for everyone to hear. " his awkwardness fading away. His keen blue eyes locking with her eyes of a lustrous obsidian. It was as if a decision had been made in his mind.
Sam doubted there would be any questions of that nature, but as it was possible, she nodded. "All right. Your office or mine?"
Vincent blinked for a moment. Oh yes he has an office. He'd not looked inside the office as of yet. He got a sheepish expression. " Commodore, how about my office. I've not gone into there yet. And it is closer." rubbing the back of his head.
Sam nodded. "Your office it is."
Vincent gave a nod walking towards his office, His office! He was feeling like he was entering into a strange land. A stranger in a strange land. The door opening Vincent stepped inside. taking a look at the office. "Welcome, Commodore" trying to put in some humor, to allay his feeling of awkwardness.
"Thank you." She looked around the near-empty office. She could sense his awkwardness, but was confident he would settle in quickly.
He pulled over two chairs, for them to have a seat. "Would you like some tea? " he thought he'd offer and this will make certain that the replicator was up and running proper.
"Herb tea would be fine, as long as you're having something," she replied, taking one of the chairs.
" I am having some herbal tea as well. Peppermint, what type would you like?" Vincent was starting to relax. Having some tea helps to calm nerves. Also, Sam's demeanor was rather soothing as well. He liked that.
"Canela, two sugars, please." She waited a beat before asking her first question. "What brings you to the Calypso?"
"I felt I needed to rejoin the structure of Starfleet, and I am also hoping that with my being back with Federation, I might find something that will help in finding my little girl." Vincent ordering the two teas, then bringing them over, handing Sam her tea first, then taking his to his seat. He reached over to pull over a small table where they could set their tea upon it. "Those are my two reasons for rejoining, well main reasons, besides getting back to a routine."
"I read something about your wife. Have you had any luck at all?"
"I came close, before rejoining Starfleet. A few months back my Uncle had an altercation with someone looking for me. They had dropped a packet, containing an image of me, then another image of my daughter who is now eight years old. I do not know why they had that. I have it now though." Vincent taking a seat.
"I wish you luck. Commander Wolfe has friends in intel. Perhaps he can be of help."
"Hopefully he will be more help that what I've been able to find. Thank you I will make certain, to go see him. As I would like to see my daughter and maybe... She can be with me." Vincent responded.
"Admiral Hunter will do everything he can to find your daughter," Sam assured him. "He's the head of covert intelligence. Lieutenant Wolfe used to work for him."
She looked around the office. "You should be able to replicate most of what you need, but if not, ask Apu. He's the quartermaster and will likely know how to acquire it."
Both eyebrows raised, Vincent having a very interested expression in his eyes. "Do tell, he sounds like someone who I must meet. I will make certain I do talk to him."
"He's definitely a good person to have around." Sam raised an eyebrow. "Is there anything else you need right now?"
Vincent saw her raised eyebrow from Samantha, he gave little smile. "Before I came back to full service, I was someone who was able to acquire things that were needed. Moving on though, I am okay I don't think I need anything else right now. I am very grateful to be here on this ship."
"And we are grateful to have you." Sam stood. "I'll let you get settled in. If you do find you need anything, ask Apu. I think the two of you will get along well."
"I will be sure to do so." He looked around the office, "Time to make this my own space, and the same for my quarters. I plan on being here for quite some time."
"Excellent. I'll leave you to it, then. Take time to meet with Bela as well. She's our counselor. If you don't, she'll find you." Chuckling softly, she headed off to talk to Commander Knight.
Vincent chuckled feeling his shoulder muscles relax. He decided to set off to get his Duffel from storage, he did need to get his own quarters straightened out.
