Mission: Broken Mirror
ON
While the ship was undergoing repairs, the Prowler crew were getting ready to lead the Calypso into the Mirror Universe to retrieve the scientist. Sam sent an encrypted message to Admiral Burke and Admiral Hunter so they'd understand when the ship disappeared and informed each of her department heads to be ready for the jump within the hour.
"York to Commander Knight. We're ready to go."
==The Prowler==
"Stand by, Captain. Having trouble with the science." Alex replied, concern in his voice, before adding. "What do you mean it’s all theoretical? I thought you had this figured out."
"We've never had to tow someone with us. In this case, we are talking about a Galaxy Class Starship. Shuttle... maybe. A whole ship. Take's a lot of numbers and science to go through, Boss. If you want this to work, without error, I need a little more time." Replied Dutch, the Prowlers technician and science expert.
"The more time you get, the more time it takes for them to get farther away. You know the risk, Dutch." Alex replied before letting out a frustrated groan. "Give us a minute. You hear me, Dutch? One minute."
Alora sat next to her husband and put her hand over his in a show of support.
"Is there anything we can do to help?" Sam asked over the comms.
"In a few minutes, Captain. We are going to need you to adjust the shields to a specific frequency." Alex said over the com channel.
==Calypso==
Bela strolled onto the bridge, as if the ground beneath her moved, rather than she walking on it. Her contagious smile was back on her face, and she took a seat near the Captain. "So, Mirror Universe?" the Counselor asked. "I hope that I do not run into a mirror version of myself. That might be disturbing."
Sam would rather not run into her opposite--or Damon's, either. "The plan is to not run into anyone but the mercenaries. We are only there to retrieve the scientist and stop the smuggling."
Hearing the tail-end of Bela's comment as he too strode on to the Bridge, Aenar grinned. It was always better when the Counselor was around and her full self. 'You know plans have a habit of falling apart when encountering reality, right, Captain?' he said with a twinkle in his eye. Running his eye of the console he had commandeered from a deputy, he nodded, 'Science reports ready - green across the board.'
Bela called back to Aenar, "You're trying to jinx us, aren't you?" She sat down in her chair on the bridge to the left of the Commodore, snuggling herself down into the chair and then once settled, pulling her legs up and crossing them both on the seat itself.
"We are going there to find the scientist and stop this group from gaining access to our reality... universe... whatever." Damion said aloud as he tapped his own console. "Under no circumstance are we to seek any alternate than the ones we are seeking. We either stick to mission or we allow Knight and his team to do this on their own since they are the only ones capable of traveling back and forth."
Bela looked over at Damion, with a proverbial question mark hanging over her head. Did he not hear that I don't want to meet one? Nobody suggested trying to find one. I think he needs his ears cleared out.
"And maybe you should learn to keep your thoughts well shielded. Especially when you feel the need to broadcasting them as quickly as you do your opinions." Damion countered firmly as he stared back at her. "It doesn't matter if you want or don't want to find them. If we run into any we are to avoid them at all coasts. Sending an entire ship, especially this one, is asking for trouble."
Bela laughed to herself. God forbid that he keep his own thoughts to himself rather than trying to purposely embarrass her. In the end, she figured that he only made himself look like a jerk in the eyes of the crew. After this mission was over, they would likely have to have a talk. If anyone was in need of counseling, it was him.
“I can’t imagine what my counterpart would be like,” the Caitian Doctor said from behind Bela’s station. He had slipped in with one of the others as they exited the turbolift at the tail end of Bela’s initial comment.
“The Mirror Universe has always fascinated me since I took Dr. Vale’s intro to Starfleet History.”
"Academically, I agree." Sam smiled at the counselor. "However, those who have been there had difficulties. It's not a place for random travelers."
"Well, I could only imagine that if my counterpart tried to play a switcheroo on all of you that you would know it immediately. That said, I'm not sure that I could pull off being my counterpart there, either. The entire Mirror Universe thing is fascinating, as you said, Commodore, from an academic standpoint. From perhaps a lesser perspective it is almost asking what would happen if I had turned left instead of right. Would my entire fate have been different? Who could know, but it would be fascinating to find out just to know, no?"
Arriving next, Danny entered the bridge with just enough time to hear the back end of the mirror counterpart conversation. He had occasionally wondered what his own might have been like, were they very different at heart or who might've had the meaner streak when pushed but they generally weren't thoughts he'd opt to air when the ship's counselor about.
The ship's Marines had helped to bolster security among key areas and the rest were ready to move at a moment’s notice should anything exciting occur but for the time being, Rye took up a place adjacent to the ship's head of security, offering both he and their CO a reaffirming nod as he stood silently, awaiting whatever craziness they were about to jump into.
Sam nodded to Rye. "We're just waiting for the Prowler to adjust the calculations. They've never taken a ship this large to the MU."
'The calculations do get more difficult the larger the ship they use,' Aenar observed dryly from his station. 'If they were doing the calculations by hand, I'd say it was mind over matter, but, alas. We use computers for these sorts of things now.'
Sam nodded. "We just have to trust they know what they're doing."
Bela answered, "Of course we do. I trust them implicitly. They trained for this."
Bela's words made Sam smile. A moment later, she got the message that the Prowler was ready to connect shields and make the jump. She thanked Commander Knight and closed the connection.
Then she opened a ship-wide channel. "All stations, prepare to jump."
Bela's hands caressed the outsides of her chair as she waited for the jump.
Vincent managed to not make a movement when Bela arrived on the bridge, she was going to be someone he may need to adjust to. That though isn't going to be in the immediate future.
[ON THE PROWLER]
The Prowler positioned itself just about the top of the Calypso. Just before the threshold of the shield build the ship produced when activating its defenses. As the pilot, Grime locked the ship in its position, she looked over to Alex and Alora. "We're ready on our end. Assuming Dutch didn't screw things up. We should be fine." She said with a playful smirk.
"Hey, my math is sound." He said as he turned from his console. Dutch let out a sigh before turning his seat back around. Adding softly. "At least... I think."
"What was that?" Pitbull said, looking over to Dutch. With an irritated groan, he turned back to look at Alex and Alora. "This is insane. We're towing a whole ship to the other universe with us?! A Galaxy Class of all ships. We should have just taken on a small group and went over on the Prowler."
Alex let out a sigh. He had a point. Lugging over a whole ship, as well as its crew, was a lot harder than taking on a small team and going on the Prowler. Their ship was already designed for jumps like this so there was no telling how much damage or power this would take. "We have to trust that this will work, John."
"Sounds more like you need to convince yourself more than you need to convince us, Boss." Pitbull (John) replied with a sigh.
"I agree with you, but this is what their Captain wanted." Alex said firmly.
"And if the Prowler gets fried on the way there? How are we going to get back? How are we going to get them back? Finding this Scientist is the least of our worries." Pitbull countered as he crossed his arms and looked toward the main view screen. "I guess it doesn't matter if we break our toys. We're guests here. We'll be gone as soon as the mission is done. And if something goes wrong? We'll be the scape goats. Win-Win for them. Not us."
Alex looked over to Alora, before turning to Pitbull. "That won't happen, John. We're on their side. We're Starfleet, same as them. We earn out place." He looked back to the main view screen and added firmly. "And I won't let them turn the blame on us. Not this ship. Not this family. You have my word." He placed is hands by his side, before slowly easing his right hand to Alora, taking her hand in his. With a squeeze, he said. "Prepare the Prowler for Universe Shift. Signal the Calypso to engage the shields on our mark."
==Calypso==
Vincent quietly made the adjustment needed, Mirror Universe it’s going to be a bit of fun . He thought to himself. His hands sliding gracefully over the surface, watching the readings and maintaining the levels of the power that is needed.
Damion saw the message on his end and began the sequence to raise the shields, but stopped at the last button. He stood there and waited for the command to come through.
"Prowler to Calypso, we're ready," Alora said. "Raise the shields and prepare to jump."
