Mission:
Lost Horizons
Location: Chief Security/Tactical Office
Timeline: After: Returning The Prisoners
ON:
Damion sat in his office, leaning back in his chair, as he looked around. If felt so empty and plain. All his stuff was removed. Photos. Commendations. Medals. Memories. All of it tucked away in a Starfleet Issued container he would be hauling away to his next assignment or the next step in his life. He stood up and cleared his throat, just as the chime from someone arriving at the door went off.
“Come in.” Damion said firmly.
The doors opened, allowing Alex to enter, dressed in his all black Starfleet Uniform with the silver trim. He looked around the officer for a moment, before stepping closer in. “You should really do something with this place.” He said jokingly.
“It’s not my problem anymore.” Damion replied as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small hand device. He placed it on the table and slid it forward.
Alex stopped it before it reached the edge. The two shared a look before he picked up the device in his hand. “Isn’t it already well passed the time you should have done this?” He asked.
“Just do it, Knight.” Damion replied firmly.
He took a moment to look at the device right before raising his right sleeve. Alex then pointed the lens of the device to his wrist and hit a button on the side. There was a blue flash which revealed a symbol tattooed on the inside of his right forearm. The image of a knights shield with a ‘P’ in the center. Inside the loop of the ‘P’ was the Theta Symbol. He placed the device on the table and slid it back.
Damion rolled up his right sleeve and picked up the hand device. As he aimed the lens towards the inside of his right forearm, Alex interrupted.
“You don’t have to do that, Wolfe. I know you’re one of Max’s guys.” Alex said a he rolled down his own sleeve.
“Yes… I do.” Damion said as he hit the button, triggering the light, revealing the same tattoo on his arm. He placed the device on the table and began to roll down his sleeve. “Unlike some people… I follow the rules set forth by Admiral Hunter in order to identify a fellow member of his department.” He let out a sight and added. “Just promise me you’ll do the same, so you don’t run into any idiots claiming to be one of us.”
Alex gave him a confused look. “What are you talking about?”
“I’m putting in my papers and heading off the Calypso. I’m taking my wife and daughter somewhere to relax before deciding on whether I want to continue my work.” He replied as he let out a sigh. He walked around the desk and kept his eyes locked on Alex. “I want you to take over as Chief of Security and Tactical for the ship.”
A laugh escaped Alex’s lips. He ran his hand through his hair and looked back to Damion with an amused look. “Funny. I here I thought you were a stickler for the rules and a hard-headed ass.” He crossed his arms over his chest and added. “You got plenty of good people under you on this ship. Besides, I got my own thing and there is certainly plenty to do for me and my team.”
“I know I do, and I don’t mean to go over their heads, but they aren’t ready yet. You have experience as Chief Security. Plus, your team, can do a lot of good on this ship. York will use you guys well. These people here need someone like you watching their back. Keeping them safe. You hold the line without breaking it.” Damion said firmly as he approached Alex slowly. “You’re a good fit here, with or without your team. I’ve asked Commodore York, if possible, to keep your wife and team onboard. Maybe in the Intel Department. Let the Dwarf… Remy… go back to doing what he wants.”
“I’m not here to shuffle the deck on this ship, Wolfe.” Alex replied quickly. “I came here to do a job and head out again. I’m not looking for a position on board. Alora and Me are gonna head back to our ship, spend some husband and wife quality time together, and head to the next mission. You and your Intelligence Chief can keep your jobs.”
“Just think it over.” Damion said, placing his hand on his shoulder. “Please. You could do some real good here. Sam and Joren could really use you and your team.” He crossed his arms over his chest and added softly. “Talk it over with your wife and team. Consider this a break from your usual routine. A chance to slow down and enjoy the moments in between the chaos. If you’re lucky, maybe the Commodore will give you my old Second Officer spot. If she does, don’t screw it up like I did.”
“How did you lose it.” Alex asked.
“As if you don’t already know the answer to that question.” Damion countered firmly.
“I don’t.” Alex said, shrugging his shoulders a bit. “I didn’t jump into everyone’s files before showing up. I wanted to learn as go. Let everyone keep their secrets unless it becomes an issue.”
Damion raised a brow before leaning back against his desk. “I got this brilliant idea to tarnish my file just enough for an old Captain to pick up on it. I wanted to finally close a chapter in my life, but I pushed too many buttons before doing it and York didn’t approve. When I got back, she punished me by taking my Second Officer position away. I’ve been trying to earn it back, but I am starting to believe she hasn’t forgiven me for the deception I pulled before leaving. Yeah, I closed that chapter and kept my Old Captain from causing more trouble, but I burned some bridges before I left and Max wasn’t about to cover my as much as I hoped. I relied on him too much and it finally bit me.” His look to Alex shifted to one of firmness before he added. “Don’t make that same mistake. Keep York and Joren in the loop. Don’t burn this bridge or rely on Max too much. You watch these peoples backs and they will watch yours. They’ll go above and beyond if need be, just don’t keep any secrets from them.”
Alex raised a brow and then slowly nodded. He wasn’t sure how much he would be able to tell them, but he certainly would keep who he needed to in the loop. That is, if he took the job. It was certainly tempting. To finally settle down and spend time with Alora. Maybe even start a family. His team certainly could use the break from their normal ‘get up and go’ way of doing things.
As he walked away from his desk and passed Alex, he patted him on the shoulder with a smile. He made his way to the door as Alex said.
“I haven’t said Yes.” Alex quickly said.
“You haven’t said No, either.” Damion countered as he exited his old Office. Leaving Alex there all by himself.
